Not gonna lie, one one my biggest pet peeves in the gym is having half of my bag occupied by tubs or containers of supplements. Especially now as temperatures are sky-rocketing across the U.S. Yes, I am absolutely trying to be health-conscious, but I don't want to carry around a huge duffel bag and half a kitchen to stay on track!
Reduced muscle soreness, increased protein synthesis, reduced fatigue by downregulation of tryptophan usage, increased strength, strengthening of the immune system... all of these are fantastic benefits! And even if you don't mind carrying your bag of supps to the gym with you, I have compiled a list of recipes and more interesting ways to incorporate BCAAs into you, and your family's life! With the weather in my area being in the 80s all week, these recipes below are surefire ways to beat the heat outside, but not on your goals!
1. Paradise (or citrus) Cooler
● 1 scoop Zest BCAAs by Supplement Smiths
● 1 cup ice cold water
● 1/2 cup of orange or pineapple juice
● Ice, ice, baby (couldn't help myself)
● mint or fruit chunks as garnish (optional).
Mix your BCAAs with water and juice. Pour over ice, and if desired add garnish! Feel free to sub out orange juice for your favorite. Don't be afraid to experiment with exotic flavors like passion fruit juice or anything else you like!
2. Tropical BCAA smoothie
● 1 scoop of Rush BCAAs (Watermelon or your favorite flavor will do!)
● ½ cup of coconut water
● ½ banana
● ½ cup of frozen or fresh pineapple chunks
● ½ cup of Greek yogurt (yes, absolutely use your favorite flavor!)
● Ice cubes!
Blend all ingredients until smooth and pour into your favorite glass.
Want to make this a pre-workout smoothie? I got you covered. Follow the recipe above but include one scoop of Blaze Tropical Sunrise as well. The coconut water will aid in hydration, the sugars from the yogurt and fruit will power you through the workout and you may just have the classiest pre-workout drink in your gym!
3. Electric Berry Blitz Slushie
● 1.5 cups mixed FROZEN berries
● 1 cup of flavored sparkling water (I use Black Cherry from the big box store)
● 1 tsp of honey or agave nectar (yes, you can absolutely sub in a simple syrup here as well, sugar free options are awesome if on a caloric deficit!)
Add all ingredients to the blender and pulse until you reach the desired consistency!
4. BCAA Lemonade
● 1 scoop Zest Lemon Lime BCAAs
● 1 cup ice cold water
● juice of 2 lemons (fresh is best!)
● 1 Tbsp of honey, agave syrup, or sweetener of choice
● Ice cubes
● lemon slices for garnish (optional)
Mix the first 4 ingredients together and pour over ice. Garnish with lemon slices if desired! It just wouldn't be summer without Lemonade, and this list wouldn't be complete without it!
5. Green Tea Refresher
● 1 scoop of BCAAs (I used Rush watermelon flavor!)
● 1 cup of brewed green tea (cooled)
● ½ cup ice cold water
● 1 tsp honey, agave syrup or favorite sweetener (optional)
● mint leaves for garnish (optional)
Add all ingredients together in a glass. Add in sweetener if desired. If using mint, make sure to place it in between your hands and clap first to awaken that mint flavor and Zest. Be sure to rub the slapped mint all around the rim before enjoying it! If you want an invigorating break, do yourself a favor and add the mint!
6. Mango ‘Rango BCAA smoothie
● 1 scoop BCAAs (I used Zest Lemon Lime)
● ½ cup mango chunks (fresh, or frozen)
● ½ cup orange juice
● ½ cup Greek yogurt (I used mango)
● Ice cubes
Blend all ingredients together until smooth. Mango is one of my favorite fruits, so I definitely keep this one in the rotation regularly! Feel free to add your own twist by experimenting with juice flavors and yogurt flavors. If not a big mango fan, swap it out with a flavor you absolutely love!
7. Hydrating Watermelon juice
● 1 scoop BCAAs (i used Rush watermelon)
● 1 cup watermelon chunks (seedless or remove seeds)
● ½ cup ice cold water
● ½ cup coconut water
● Ice cubes
Add all ingredients together and blend until smooth! Whether just relaxing by the pool or recovering after playing all day, this summertime drink will be a hit for sure!
There you have it. 7 ways to add in your BCAA supplements to some pretty sweet recipes that will keep you cool all week long. These are all pretty quick recipes as well, so they won't take all day. However, if you have time, you can add 1 scoop of BCAAs to 1 cup of cold water and then freeze your BCAAs the night before your workout to have BCAA ice cubes, ready to add to your shaker cup! Stay cool out there!
